Illustration for original trademark for the company Pynson Printers Incorporated, New York. This lithograph was pulled from the book A Book of American Trade-Marks and Devices compiled by Joseph Sinel (New York, Alfred A Knopf, 1924).

Joseph Spinel began working in graphic departments of various sorts in New Zealand and England before coming across the pond in 1918, when he began to truly contribute to commercial graphic design. In addition to his compilation of this and other publications, he coined the term "industrial design" as a reference to industrial objects used in advertising, and designed hundreds of trademarks himself, including those of The Art Institute of Chicago, Doubleday Doran, The Archaeological Institute and Hoffman Ginger Ale.

This piece is in very good condition. Little toning and foxing. A lovely piece of Americana!
