"Red and Blue Maccaw". This beautiful hand-colored engraving comes from the Scottish ornithologist Sir William Jardine’s "The Naturalist’s Library Vol. VI - Parrots, published in 1836.

The illustration was drawn by Edward Lear (who was well known at the time for his previous parrot illustrations) and the engraving was done by William H. Lizars.

Lizars was able to create a more detailed and fine line engraving of the parrots by using steel rather than the traditional copper plate.

The print is in excellent condition with only slight toning.
