Decoration Egyptienne Print Pl. 24 (SOLD)

Original hand-colored lithograph published by Henri Ernst, Editeur, in Paris in 1923. This piece was carefully removed from a portfolio titled “Decoration Egyptienne,” which originally included thirty-six different hand-colored prints with images depicting various Egyptian motifs.

The text located at the bottom of the piece translates to “According to Prisse D’Avennes (Atlas of the History of Egyptian Art According to the Monuments).” Prisse D’Avennes was a French archaeologist, Egyptologist, architect, and writer. In 1827 he was hired as a civil engineer by the viceroy of Egypt, Muhammad Ali Pasha, who is considered to be the founder of modern Egypt. Throughout his many years living in Egypt, he adopted the local values and culture. He stated that doing so resulted in a greater understanding of Egyptian society and people.

Measures 10.75" x 14.75".

In good condition overall! Some slight toning around the edges due to the age of the piece. Two small 0.5” tears along the bottom edge.
