Known as “paesine” or landscape stones, these 60 million year old chunks of polished marble are actually Eocene limestone blocks, buried not very deeply under ground near river beds. Over millennia, water carrying iron and manganeseoxides has trickled and filtered through the stone blocks gradually imbuing them with their magnificent colors and subtle shades. A master craftsman is needed to carve the block without destroying the fragile element. Careful polishing is used to bring out the brilliance and luminous nature of each piece.
