This is an original 4 panel lithograph on velin of "La Piscine" by Henri Matisse for French modernist art magazine Verve, Vol. 35/36 printed in 1958 by Mourlot studio in Paris. This would be the second to last volume(s) of this publication. Limited to 2000 editions.

Verve published 38 issues in 10 volumes including lithographs by the most prominent artists of the Parisian art scene of the first half of the 20th century. Some of the early contributors were James Joyce and Ernest Hemingway.

Henri Matisse was a French painter, print-maker, draughtsman, and sculptor. Along with Picasso, Matisse is common regarded as one of the artists who best helped to define the revolutionary developments in the visual arts throughout the opening decades of the 20th century. His mastery of the expressive language of color and drawing won him recognition as a leading figure in the modern art movement.
